North Carolina - 2006/09/09 15:48
hey DeLa folks I just moved to North Carolina (Chapel Hill) from Santa Cruz, and I must say, there is quite an abundance of sweet disc golf courses (I've played charlotte, burlington, raleigh, durham and chapel hill). One thought that keeps entering my mind is, however, this course is not DeLa. Nothing here combines the length and the sheer beauty of Santa Cruz disc golf. If there is anything lacking in the SC area, it is another course that is short and incredibly tight. Black Mouse is close, but even that is too open. I think if the SC area had another couple old school courses, there could be a couple more world champs from the area. I miss DeLa greatly. I've yet to see anything that comes close to holes 2, 4, 9, 11, 12, 13, 15, 17, 20, 23, 26, 27. I'm waiting patiently to see their equals, but think I might never. Anyways, cheers to all you SC folks, and I hope to see more of you in the world rankings soon.

I hear you Alex. The more courses I play around the country, the more I realize that having DeLa as a home course is like ski or snowboard freaks that live in the Alps.
It's been awhile, but I remember playing a couse called Hornet's Nest in NC that was pretty challenging. Have fun!

Hey Alex- I'm sure you are aware but just in case, you are relatively close to Winthrop University where the USDGC is held every year. You should try to go down next month and check out the tournament and the course. I have only been there once, but it is a great course and I think it is open for play year round- minus all the -ish yellow OB rope. It isn't Dela, but it is a true test of your golf abilities. Risk/reward is all around.
So what brought you out there anyway?

Yeah... I made the Rock Hill trip very quickly after my move to this place. I don't even think I had a house yet. Sweet course with beautiful scenery. I played the Gold layout (10000 feet over 18 holes) and only made it through one round. Brutal. I even pulled a geek move and tried to get a tour of the Innova factory there, but they said I didn't give them enough of a heads up. I'm out here trying to get a PhD in Epidemiology at UNC so that I can be one of the many disc golfing doctors out there. I'll be playing in the Sneaky Pete and the Charlotte open soon, and after that I'll be trying to fanagle my way into the front row at the USDGC. Have fun at the Disneyland of Disc Golf.
