Disc Golf Future? - 2006/05/11 11:18
Check out the latest DeLa Blahg entry. With the PDGA National Tour stopping in Santa Cruz for the Master's Cup, today's topic is the future potential of disc golf.

Interesting bit Jack.
I undersatnd that Ball & Stick golf is over 400 years old. Perhaps the oldest current sport, that has always been a sport. "The Grand Old Game". It is the most popular sport in the world, even though it has been off limits economically or socially to a most of the popultaion until the latter part of the 20th century. The LPGA & folks like Tiger have helped to change a lot of that.
Also, though disc golf is very similar to ball golf, the analogy of Softball to Baseball does not do the analogy complete justice. For eaxample, the skill set for softball and baseball are nearly identical, as well as the equipemt and physics, whereas none of that is true in disc golf vs. ball golf, excpet conceptually. A fairway is called a fairway, and a putt is called a putt, but they are in actuality very different things.
Mentally the approach is nearly identical though, and the concept of getting around a course, attacking a hole and so on are almost exact.
They say that when you really get into golf, it's 90% a mental game. In that sense as well the two games are very true to one another and you can learn a tremendous amount about the them from playing both.
I think it's interesting how many disc golfers you here say "I never watched (ball) golf on TV until I played disc golf, then it made sense"
Hopefully that will carry over, and some day you'll hear ball & stick golfers say "i never watched disc golf on TV until I started duffing"
