Orangevale Christmas Open 2005--CVS - 2005/12/18 22:09
Congratulations to Nate Doss on winning the 2005 Christmas Open at Orangevale on December 17th!
For those of you looking to play one-day tournaments (2 rounds on a Saturday), I highly recommend the Central Valley Series (CVS). There are still several left, though most are pretty far from Santa Cruz.
Nate and Don Smith made the drive up, as did I, and Nate walked away with $300 for 1st place. It was a little wet during the second round, but Nate shot -6 and ended up -12 overall. Only a few local Pro Masters had better scores (Oates, Kenny Lee).
I'm planning to do at least three more stops on the CVS tour. I'll be at Visalia, Fresno, and Hanford. Only Hanford has a temp course, but it is fun, with a great mix of short and long shots.
If you complete 5 of the 10 CVS, you get to the finals (in Hanford April 1, 2006) for free. The other 10 tournaments are "taxed" so all prizes and money are already accounted for in the finals.
Ok, enough of the infomercial.
Cheers, Steve

Hey Steve,
Where did you find a flyer/signup form / phone number, whatever for Visalia? I really want to play, but I don't know who's running it or where to find a flyer.
Usually, I get the CVS flyers from norcalseries.com, but Steve Ganz hasn't got one for Visalia yet.
Little help? Matt

Hi Matt,
I have not seen a flyer yet. I was going to call the TD from last year to get info--but there is a new TD:
Chuck Woody 559 635-0267
He has no flyer on the club site (visaliadiscgolf.com). Open is $40. Two rounds, player's meeting at 0830 hr.
Cheers, Steve

Left Chuck a message this morning. I really want to touch base with him--considering how most of the CVS events fill up a 3 weeks to a month before the actual tournaments.
Have you spoken to him, Steve?

Hi Matt,
Yes, I spoke to him yesterday. His mailing information is:
Chuck Woody 5310 West Cherry Visalia, CA 93277
I doubt this one, or the Hanford one, will fill. But Fresno likely will...
Cheers, Steve

yeah, I signed up for Carmichael and Fresno already -- Visalia was the only one I didn't sign up for because I couldn't find any info.
I called Chuck and he called me back today. $30 to play AM1 and he told me you are going to have to play open.
Can't make Hanford cause it's the same weekend as Berzerkely Doubles.
