I thougth disc golf was growing! - 2007/12/18 11:31
Has there a decline of tournaments and lack of pdga stops in the norcal area this year? Its seams very hard to find an updated schedule of tournaments . Any know when Norcalseries.com will be updated?

Hey Cassidy. Disc Golf is growing. Too fast almost. All of the organized tournaments, clubs and websites are run by volunteers. There has been so much growth in the numbers of events and people playing that a lot of these volunteers are working at disc golf more than they are playing it. I think that leads to these volunteers taking breaks or even suffering burn out.

The NorcalSeries.com website is basically run by 2 people, Steve Ganz and Matt Kelly. I know both of them work in the technology industry and are probably, like myself, seeing an overflow of work as well as trying to get ready for the Holidays. I wouldn't expect new stuff to pop up till after New Years.

With all of these new people coming into the sport we need to have some of them start to step up more and help out with running things and getting things done. The ratio of volunteers to players is going the wrong direction. Disc golf at the competitive or organized level involves a lot of work and all of the volunteers do it for the love of the game. If they don't get the play the game as much, that love gets buried under the demands of the work.

That being said, the schedule is up to date and includes NorCal, CVS and some SoCal tournaments. Plenty of disc golf to play!

Hi Steve G.,

Thanks for the update. Which Vintage Cup date is correct, or are the AMs and Pros split this year? Also, will both Gold Pans figure into the points for the 2007-08 series?

I'm not sure who was involved, but I think it is great that the NorCal Finals are later in the year, and hopefully no NorCal events occur after that in 2008. If that is the case, then in 2009 all NorCal events that contribute to the overall standings for 2009 will actually occur during 2009!

Happy New Year!
Steve L.

Awesome! I just get so excited, I get a head of myself sometimes. Glad to know the Nor Cal tourney dates ARE updated for 2008. I do realize how difficult monitoring/maintaining a web site can be. Id love to help with the Nor Cal and DeLa site in any way possible. My services include video and photography. If any one desires a need for these elements, Id love to volunteer my time. Due to a lay-off I am very available at the time.

Where is the sign up page? I have looked all over the site and can't find where sign ups are. Is there a form I can print and fax in?
