I have a dream to start a tournament series here close to home. It could be called the HWY 1 series, competing at the 5 Monterey courses , the 3(soon 4 with Pinto Lake) Santa Cruz courses, and may include San Jose and San Fran courses, too. A separate points system(from NorCal) could be used to qualify for a HWY 1 championships. It could easily run co-existent with the already solid NorCal series. That way we get our tourney fix, raise more money for our local courses, and grow the sport in our specific area in stead of being spreed out over thousands of miles. The Masters cup, & Otter Open are just not enough. We are neglecting these awesome courses in our area by not having some kind of way to play them all as often as we'd like.

Are you thinking one- or two-day events? Sanctioned or not? A similar effort exists in the central valley (CVS), which occurs from Nov-April, when disc golf in many states is relatively dormant. I think the hardest part is to get TDs for the events. Players show up, and in droves. They are not sanctioned but have a point series and championships (paid for by taxes from the regular season events) with 'free' cash and prizes.
Based on the few 'special' one-day events I've seen in this area, having similar events would be a big draw, especially if it was during the 'down' period of the season. I'd sure rather drive to Monterey for a single day than Fresno...

Hi Steve, thanks for your interest. I was thinking they would be one day, non-sanctioned events. We would play each course twice in the series and players would take their lowest score for that course.
I would love to get the DGA involved, since this is their prime market.
It would be great to include the Big Sur Royal, Jellies Jam, Turkey Shoot-out, and St. Francis Cup as a points events, too.
I would be interested in being the TD(since its my idea) but if a more experienced TD would like to take lead and show me the TD ropes, I would be the Assistant TD in the beginning, then take over after the first one or two.
