Status: Future of DeLaveaga Disc Golf Course - 2006/09/11 12:51
I saw this topic posted in the news section. It's almost a year old so I assume it's been resolved but I was curious what happened with this? Was the land re-conveyed to the city? Or is it still National Guard property? Is there still talk about making DeLa a pay-to-play course?

Hello. Well its not completely resolved, though now as far as I know of its out of the national guards hands, they finally decided they do not want it ? Therefore things are looking good for the courses future, because from my understanding the Santa Cruz County Parks Dep. included disc golf in there master plan.
dolan if you get this msg before 6:00pm, there is a delay dg club meeting tonight downtown at giavannas(spelling?)

UPDATE: Future of DeLaveaga Disc Golf Course - 2006/10/03 12:52
While nothing is STILL not finalized, it is looking as good as ever that the course will stay, and that the DDGC will have a role in running it. As many of you know, there has been a dispute between the City of Santa Cruz and the State (National Guard) over the land upon which our course sits. The City owns it and leases it to the State, while the State owns six of the holes at the ball course. They were supposed to switch ownership, but the State wanted the course removed before they would switch. The City refused (kudos). The State then started looking to see if they could sell the land, which is not possible. Still, this caused more delays.
Now, however, it appears the State has given up and is willing to let the City own the disc course, and all the ball holes. They only want to keep the armory, with some concessions from the City such as expanding their use permit, running a new water line, cutting their grass, etc.
A new piece of legislation needs to be written to allow this new transfer of ownership. The goal is to have it signed by the governor in January 2007.
Once the City has full ownership, and no more lease with the State, we will present them with our Plan for improving and running the course. In the meantime, we are already working with them on more erosion control efforts, as that is the "hottest" issue. I encourage all of those who wish to have input on these issues to please become a club member, attend the monthly meetings, and sign up for some committees. "Many hands make light work." Thanks.

lol I saw that double negative right away, but know not how to edit once posted. Let me rephrase: "Ain't nothing finalized yet."
