my 2 cents:
i am not a 'bag tag' expert, however, in other 'events' that i have experienced, it has always been that you would challenge people in 'your group' for tags, and not people in other groups...
ed, i realize it is easy for one to say it is 'just one more step', but, saying and accomplishing are often quite different, and you might find that it is easier to just confine the challenge to the groups....
i also prefer this approach to challenge within my group, as i know who i am challenging while i am playing, as opposed to not knowing what someone else is doing across the course. i also prefer to witness the person who is going to take my tag.
again just my opinion.

We can do it any way people want to do it. I think we should decide in this forum rather than voting on Saturday, however. It is up to the TD to set the rules, with the advice of others as an aid. Putting it to a vote on Saturday would likely be too hectic and may cause problems.
One other thought that I had about this, that makes it less easy, is that the monthly takes quite a while to complete. Many want to bail right after playing, especially if they had a bad round. Having a full bag tag challenge would make everyone wait around to the end. Not a terrible problem unless you shot 20 over and just want to go home and take a shower...

The DDGC Bag Tag Rules state that the challenge is within the individual groups. I guess to keep it simple, we can stick to the rules and if others want to side challenge or include others, that would be up to the groups to decide. The Monthly is challenge enough for some of us.

I think it would be best to keep the Bag Tag events and the Monthly separate. While I think it would be cool to have a Saturday morning Bag Tag challenge, the monthly is a separate event and should stay that way.
Bag Tag challenges within your group are automatically 'on'. And if there's no one in your group with a tag, you can challenge taggers in another group.

agreed that 'challenges' and 'tournaments' are inherently different situations, and again why i believe a challenge should be limited to a group.
for example:
you are in a 'challenge' for tags, and you have a one stroke lead over your challenger in your group. you need to decide whether to lay up or go for it, based on their position and score.....
if your challenger is 'not' in your group, you have no idea what their score is, and therefore, cannot make the appropriate choice for you do not have enough information.....

IMHO, for the monthly the tag challenge should be by group. That way even if you're not going to win the monthly you have something to play for, to keep/win a tag. Besides not everyone in the playing in the monthly has a bag tag.
