Re:2005 MASTERS CUP - 2005/05/02 15:53
I like to congratulate all of the winners of this year's Masters Cup ams weekend. Steve, I can't imagine when you will use the DGA Basket you won since you are always running one course or another. You can see the scores here:
Masters Cup Am Weekend Scores.

We are very fortunate to have Marty Hapner as our Tournament Director of this year's 20th annual event. The tournament ran smoothly and scores were posted quickly. Thanks Marty for all the hard work and dedication. You are an inspiration to all of us.

A really big thanks to our sponsor, Disc Golf Association. The DGA was around all weekend to provide collectable discs, shirts, hats, visors and more. We appreciate all they have done for us and are proud to have them on board for yet another Masters Cup.

We had many new sponsors this year of both the event and the course tee signs. A list of our sponsors will be posted.

If you would like to see some photos of the weekend, Chris Illes with Run Photo Run was on the course capturing the event. Please take a look at the pictures and buy a few for your wall here:
RunPhotoRun.com

Rob Harding (Santa Cruz Disc) was on site to provide the burgers and various products from the shop. We were also fortunate enough to have our own Mark Karleskind - DelaDisc on site to provide discs, drinks and snacks for the participants. Huk Labs - Jay Harbour drove all the way down from Portland on Friday to display his fantastic artwork on discs, shirts, hats and more. Unfortunately, he was not able to make it on time to play and I hear he is pretty good, so Steve is probably lucky for this. You can see more of Jay's stuff here: www.HukLab.com

Be sure to look for these sponsors at the Pros weekend on May 20-22.

Thank you to all who helped out getting the course in shape by cutting grass, weed whacking, pulling poison oak and general cleanup. Thank you also to all, junior members included, who showed up to help out spotting and helping with parking control during the event. We showed everyone why DeLaVeaga Disc Golf club rocks and how much pride we take in our course.

Best,
Rob

Well said Everyone!

I think it went very well and thanks to all who helped!

Hopefully the Pro weekend will be as good or better. Maybe I can play as good as Steve Lonhart did! Congrats Steve!

See you all out there soon, and remember- 100 putts a day helps keep the bogeys away!

Indeed. All went well.

I heard just this one grumble (that I can talk about here)

That water was for sale on Friday.

My personal feeling is that sine Delaveaga has no potable water available of it's own, that it should be provided free to tournament players by DDGC.

I know that the coolers did evetually get out to 11 & 17 and that was good.

I bought bottled water myself thursday night for 11.

If we want to sell soda, sport drinks etc, that's a good thing. Added value. But I think it's really tacky and stingy to charge guests for water at our events.

We don't need the money that bad, and it makes us look cheap, and greedy. I am entirely willing to pay for it myself if the club is willing to promise not to sell water.

I may have missed? But I never heard either those requests explicitly? I actually thought that both of them were better choices than what could have been. I thought it was requested that people do find spots along 10 & 11 where thay could park safely?

I assumed the club house as opposed to hanging around the parking lot was a better place for specatators and old frineds to catch up and get out of the way? Which I guess in retrospect, no place is the right place for the wrong thing. Plus, I also forgot how some people can get when they thorwtheir drive 80 degrees right of the fairway.

Either way, I'll remember it correctly for the Open weekend and hope not to shank one into the clubhouse.

Huge Thanks to Dawg for providing shuttle service. That was absolutely huge!

Excellent shooting Steve.

If you played Am and appreciated it, you can walk it by getting out and help mow the next 2 weeks.

Congratulations to, DeLaVeaga architect, Hall of Famer and the 2005 Masters Cup Sr. GrandMasters Champion, Tom Schot who was awarded the honor of being the second recipient of the coveted Headrick Cup...

Congratulations also, to Uncle Steve Rico for reaching his goal of being the Open Pro Masters Cup Champion . Stevie was the Am Champion ten years ago.....congratulations to our local wonder, Burl, for winning the FPO division, and to Emory and Triemstra for their victories...congratulations to all competitors who survived the wonder and challenge of DayLa, in nearly ideal conditions.

My thanks to the DGA for their support as the main Sponsor, as well as to the other event sponsors, Tom Schot Sports; Dave LeVan of the Well-Within; Russell Jacobson, DeLaVeaga Club President and local Attorney; Rob Harding of Santa Cruz Disc; Danny Shermis of Shermis Construction; DJ's Mini-Mart; myself from discgolf.com; Innova and Discraft for their fundraising opportunities.

My ultimate appreciation to those who gave their time to help make the Masters Cup a true happening: my wonderful lifemate and partner, Jonna Hubling, for which we shared our 29th anniversary of the first time we met, yesterday...my brother Rob Hapner and Dave Thomas for being there the entire time and providing me the opportunity to play, because I could count on them. To the 'new' DeLaVeaga Disc Golf Club leaders and members who provided the manpower to make it work, including: Russell Jacobson, Ed Buskirk, CJ, John Steele, Jim Kroutch, Katie B, ChuckIt, Steve, Tim, and the others that their names elude me just now. Thanks also to Brad Deteau and Rob Hanson for allowing us to use their rental vehicle for shuttling purposes. My thanks also to Jack Lowe who served as our Marshall.....it was great to meet and get to know JLowe, hope your experience was likewise. Less I forget, my thanks also to Steve Ganz...your help and insight goes without saying. My thanks to all the competitors...hope you enjoyed your time...

It was also decided that from now on, we will honor the man who started it all, and the Masters Cup will now be referred to as the:
Ed Headrick Masters Cup....it has also been decided, that I will be going on a discgolf sabbatical, so I thank everyone involved in this sport/game who gives their time freely to continue it's progress; see you down the road...

I had a comment that the event was 'effortless'...or so it seemed, which is the ultimate form of gratitude that could be given...
