Re:New Monthly Payout Scenario - 2006/03/23 21:31
There may be some Am's that could step it up to pro, but not a huge percentage. I believe that the Am's should be included in the extra portion. Am's have put in, in the past, and should benefit from the new payout format. To not include them would be disrespectful to them as players and as club members.
(Some may say that I am partial, since I am an Am, and a lifer Am at that. But as a female player, we never fit into any normal scenarios or discussions, because there are not many female players. In fact, the women often don't play for money because there aren't enought of us. So my comments on this discussion are purely commen sense.)

I have to agree with Katie, we probably shouldn't cut the ams out of the added cash. I do like the idea of a straight split between the divisions. This will probably help attract more people to the divisions that aren't as large (mainly Pro and Women).
Dave, drop me an email, I want to discuss this month's trophies *grin*. (stan dot pratt at gmail dot com) http://www.santacruzdisc.com

Hi Dave et al.,
I think larger divisions should get a (proportionally) larger slice of the pie. The largest groups are in AMs. But, since this is an opportunity for some people to play against harder competition, I do like the idea of creating an incentive for people to play up--I just don't quite see how to do it equitably.
Regarding trophies: thanks but no thanks. Perhaps at the next monthly there can be a show of hands for 1) who wants a trophy and less cash in hand vs. 2) gimme the cash only! I imagine most of the monthly attendees are for the latter and not the former. Cash is king...
Thanks for having this discussion on line! Steve

Hi All,
Based on the March 2006 results, here's how it could play out...
40 participants. 40*5=$200, then give $100 to DDG CLub.
Pro=10 players, $50 base value (bv) Am1=10 players, $50 bv AmMast=8, $40 bv Am2=7, $35 bv Women=3, $15 bv Jr=2, $10 bv (*I feel juniors (less than 13 yr) should not play for cash--nor should they pay)
With the "extra" $100 allocated to each group, proportionally, it'd be close to this:
Pro=10 players, $50 bv + $25 extra ($40, 20, 10, and 5 as payout...) Am1=10 players, $50 bv + $25 extra AmMast=8, $40 bv + $20 extra Am2=7, $35 bv + $20 extra Women=3, $15 bv + $10 extra Jr=2, $10 bv, they get no added cash. I think if you are under 13 yr old, you should be able to show up and play--no $ to play or to the club. These kids are the ones we should be encouraging.
Just my $0.02 (bv)! Steve

I don't really play the monthlies any more, but it seems to me that all monies paid into a division, should stay strictly in that division.
That's part of why divisions exist, and part of the motivation to move forward. If there's not enough people in your division, my appologies but you'll have to step up, give 5 bucks to support the club or just play for fun.
Technically, "Ams" are not supposed to be taking cash anyway.

If you don't play the monthlies, why are you posting your opinion about how it should be paid out? Those that actually play the monthlies should have the say on how it's paid out.
Regarding "Ams" not supposed to be taking cash, my understanding is that is for PDGA tourneys only...where does it say "technically" that "Ams" are not suposed to be taking cash? Is that just your opinion again?
