Hi Marty et al.,

Jim Hagen did the heavy lifting and moved baskets into positions so that you can check out the Super 18. I think he said they'll be like that until Wed PM. Thursday the pins will be in positions for Saturday's morning round.

I had the chance to play the Super 18 with Hagen, CJ, and Tom Schot today. For what it's worth, here are my thoughts.

Tee 3 to hole 5 short: the mando on the oak needs to be clearly marked. The first oak cluster is the one we assumed was the mando, and in the middle of it there is a trunk that reaches teh highest point in the whole tree, and is sort of straight. If that was flagged, it would be fairly easy to see. Jim suggested using the oak tree2/3 of the way down fairway 3 as the mando. I think that makes the hole odd, since you'd drive down, then back up to the pin. Anyways, the mando needs clarification.

Spotters will be needed on tee 12 to pin 13.

Will we use the tee pad line on the road for modified tee 22 to pin 24? It is still clearly visible, just needs a sweeping.

Where is the tee for 26A? Back on the pavement? And will there be OB rope?

I think folks will have a lot of fun on Sunday!!

Cheers,
Steve

i had suggested to russ to take a 20 foot pole [bamboo, or something] and afix it to the oak tree, so that there would be a clear vertical line for the mando. i think that would be sufficient.

the line that was painted for the temporary tee for hole 22 during the masters cup is the suggested tee off for hole 22 to 24. i think hagen was going to verify that it was sufficient, but, it sounds like you have already checked it out. i don't believe there was any discussion on any ob....i think most will be throwing left, so it probably won't be much of an issue. oops...my other left.

Here's a question regarding the current layout at DeLa:

Is the 16th tee playing to basket 12 (in the short left position) really a par 4? If so, then shouldn't I-5 also be considered a par 4???

Not to stir the pot here, but I will be playing that position today, since it is where hole 16 currently plays to. I am an AM2, and that being a par 4 seems somewhat easy to me (but I could be wrong!).

Thoughts?

A good point Eric.

I played it yesterday (without the mando) and it was a fairly easy par 3 (again, withOUT the mando)...

Of course, the par of a given hole is really meaningless. It's the total number of strokes that count.

I played it this morning also. It's a really fun layout. My only question was which tree was the mando for 3-5, also.

Rob Harding showed up while I was going through the 12-13 section. He spread some chips around and moved the outer piles into the ones closer to the tee of 13. We might need to get out there with rakes or something to spread the chips a little more evenly.

Kristy and I are working on getting the rest of the signs up. She informed be that 6 has been busted, so we'll be trying to replace that one also. Does anyone have a post hole digger (the closest I'll ever get to a PHD ? We need to put the pole back in for 8a and 9(?). BTW, I love having 9 in the back like that, too bad it wouldn't work out for a regular placement. Most of my group drove into the tee area of ten, which would be dangerous for normal play.

Thanks!

Actually, the new pin position for 9 could work for regular rec. play...with a mando (Daviar's idea!).
