Capped divisions....thinking out loud - 2007/04/11 10:03
Greetings,
I'm looking for input on the idea of division caps/limits for a tourny with ALL divisions.
As the sport is getting larger there seems to be more "lopsided" divisions.
I have much respect for what you folks have done with DG over all these years,
and I would value your feedback.
Thanks in advance.

Hi Steven:

Since no one has yet replied to your post, I'll chime in with my own four cents (inflation).

My personally-motivated sentiment, as someone who enjoyed "hardware" success as an advanced player followed by years as a "donating" middle-of-the-pack player in the open division, is to give your idea a try somewhere. I'd like to see the players who can play with the upper echelon do so in tournaments, challenging themselves as well as others.

However, I also think that one of the great things about disc golf is the grassroots nature of its growth. Many manufacturers and top players badly yearn for growth to occur on the pro level - with increased sponsorship, spectator numbers, and the like. But the reality is that most of the growth is occurring in the recreational areas, with more courses and more new players. And that is a good thing.

It would be interesting to see - if divisions were capped for a tourney - if most players' desire to participate would override their desire to "cash." And isn't it funny that the problem, if there is one, is related to an amateur player's desire to "cash" ?
