HOF Classic - 2007/04/19 19:19
My buddie Loco D - who used to live in SC but now resides near Atlanta - practiced the Innova course today in prep for tomorrow's round. 18 holes, 9000-plus feet, Gold (1000 rating) par of 69, and it took us more than three hours. That course is a bear! I'm anxious to see what kind of scores are posted tomorrow. The IDGC building is pretty nice, and the Steady Ed museum officially opens tomorrow. Dela represent!

Hi Steve:
You'll soon see a full recap and numerous pictures on my upcoming blog at www.santacruzdisc.com, but here's a brief summary:
Steady Ed Course:
Awesome mix of par 3's, 4's and 5's. The water holes are for the most part fair and definitely challenging. The course features metallic blue Mach V's with custom 'Steady Ed Memorial' number plates, and has been in the ground for a while so while the course is quite wooded, the fairways are defined and nicely cleared/defined.
W.R Jackson (Innova) Course
This course was completed literally six days before the tourney started, and it showed. I think there are still trees scheduled to be removed, and the fairways were full of debris, hidden holes, and (ugh!) tiny ticks. After playing it two times, I began to see the preferred landing areas on the par 4's and 5's (a majority of the holes on this course). Although it's just 18 holes, the length is 9000-plus feet and playing it takes 3.5-4 hours even in casual play.
Both courses are challenging and fun, but after playing these courses and those at Milo McIver (Beaver State Fling in Oregon), I'm seeing a trend that as a left-hander I don't like. They develop these 600-plus foot holes that dogleg left after 350 wooded feet, and the best a lefty can do is throw a perfectly straight shot to the turning point and hope for a long par from there. The holes are designed for a strong righty to power a low hyzer around the corner- something lefty's can't match. But I realize us lefty's are a small minority, so it is what it is. Good thing we're blessed with more natural talent, heh-heh
