Putting contest rules and scoring - 2005/03/29 10:01
FYI
1. Each player gets three shots from each station.
2. Number of shots made multiplied by the number of the station (1 through 10).
3. Two extra points for making the FIRST putt from a given station.
4. If the third putt from any station is missed, the player must make the longest comeback putt. If he misses the comeback putt, he must subtract the value of that station from his total.
It's pretty simple, but difficult to keep a running track of the score in your head. For example:
Player A makes the first two putts from station 6 (24 ft) and misses the third putt and makes the "comeback" putt: 2 (putts made) x 6 (value of the station) = 12 12 + 2 (for making the first putt) = 14 pts total
Player B makes the first two putts (same as player A = 14 pts) but misses the comeback putt: 14 - 6 (point value of the station) = 8 pts total. (the third putt hit the side of the basket and rolled about 22 ft away... )
Player C misses the first putt and makes the last two putts: 2 x 6 = 12 pts total.
In this example, even though player B makes the first two putts, the penalty for missing the comeback putt gives him the lowest point total.
The idea is to simulate tournament conditions. More value is given for making the first putt and there is more pressure to make the comeback putt in order to avoid having points subtracted.
This is basically the "Belchik variation" of the original 'Around 9' putting game.
Scoring accuracy will not be an issue as I have created easy to use scoring sheets to keep track of each player's results.

Oh yeah...in the event of a tie (which is unlikely), there would be a one-disc putt off. Players begin from station 1 and drop out if they miss the putt. Of course, one of them would have to make the putt the other one misses to win...
