Aptos High course - 2008/04/16 20:14
Hi All,

Has anyone played the new course at Aptos High? I was told that all 18 holes were to be placed on site this past weekend. I plan to check it out next week.

Cheers,
Steve

Hey Steve. I haven't played it yet, but I plan on hitting it next week after work sometime. Give me a ring when you plan on going.

Its a good course, still needs work. CAUTION!!!!!!!!!!!:
Wear long Pants, poison oak from hell there!
The course is not all that well marked, but just need someone
whos played there or wander around to find
the holes/etc.

Re:Aptos High course - 2008/04/20 18:14
Hi All,

I had a little bit of free time today between kids' soccer, and played the course. To get information about pin and tee placement, go to:
http://www.aptoshs.net/students/clubs/frolf/index.shtml

Kiv was there, so I tagged along with him, otherwise I would have been lost. I did not have a map or hole directions (see link above), and if you go there without those, save yourself some time and look for someone else already playing and tag along.

Here are my impressions having played it once through, on a moderately windy day:

--good use of the land that's available, with plenty of different shots, including up and down steep slopes, sides of hills, tunnel shots, etc.
--relatively short lengths, but the wind can take errant shots into bad places
--still tall grass and vegetation, but once that is gone/trampled, it will be easy to follow the flow of the course and see all of the pins (most are visible from the tee).
--I think there are options to lengthen the holes with alternative tee placement, but that's for later
--I shot -4 with two bogeys (on short holes, hello wind!). I fully expect to shoot at least -6 my next visit, and possibly lower. There are plenty of birdie opportunities, and on a calm day, watch out!

Kudos to Jake and the rest of his crew! I love having another option, and one that is so close to my home!

Cheers,
Steve

Hi All,

I took a Google map (satellite view) and drew the tees and holes (2 maps, actually). But they are too large to include here (50 kb limit).

If you want a copy, just let me know and I can email it to you or if someone has a different way to post them, let me know.

Cheers,
Steve

Hi Steve,
Have you tried making the map a PDF file? send them to me and Ill play around with them. I have also be messing with photoshoping pole positions/lines and distances into photos for tee pads or the web.

Is there any rules about the course being closed during school hours?
