Ryan Ranch soon to have a course! - 2008/04/16 20:12
Hi All,

Mark Farrar mentioned that the Stinging Jellies Disc Golf Club in Monterey has plans on adding another course to Monterey. Here's an excerpt from a message posted on their message board this April:

"Good News from the City of Monterey!!! We have received the go-ahead
to start development of Monterey's newest Disc Golf Course at Ryan
Ranch Park (Name to be determined in the future, all suggestions are
welcome). This 75 acre park is a fantastic venue for a Disc Golf
Course. We hope to have 27 holes in here by the end of the year. As
of now, there are 24 objects (posts and tone poles) with as many tees
carved out. Course hours are to be determined this week. You may go
play this course if you know the layout. Guides can be made available
by contacting a club member who knows. The grass is tall and ticks
are common. The city and our club will be mowing and manicuring this
course in the next few weeks.

WE ARE NOT PERMITTED TO PARK AT THE GRILL AT RYAN RANCH ANYMORE. The
parking lot is at the top of Ryan Ranch Road off of Canyon Del Rey.
It is a locked gate and will be opened daily once a schedule with the
city can be determined. In the meantime, please park anywhere else
that does not raise any issues with neighbors/tenant companies at
Ryan Ranch.

When we approached the City with our proposal, their main concern was
smoking and the respect of all City park rules and regulations.
Please be reponsible disc golfers and abide by these rules as we are
under a 6 month trial basis for this course. There will be many eyes
on us during this time and in the future as there are many businesses
nearby who have enjoyed an uninhabited park for many years. Please be
courteous to any passers by and enlighten them to our great sport.

We will be accepting sponsorship donations for Tees and Baskets
in the near future. Right now our goal is to complete the course at
Don Dahvee to get it ready for its PDGA debut. There are 11 Basket
Sponsorships available and all Tees are available. Baskets go for
$350 FOR LIFE! Tee Sponsorships go for $150 FOR LIFE! Please contact
Jim Dixon or Steve Thomas for more information on how to make your
sponsorship donation.

Thanks for your continued support in helping us make Monterey a
destination Disc Golf Wonderland.

Sean Allen"

I've been working at Ryan Ranch for the last couple of months. I happened to meet up with Sean and Steve from the Monterey club and play the tentative layout a few weeks ago. This is going to be an amazing course. It has all the elements of a world class championship course and if it is done right will be the perfect compliment to De LaVeaga in the Monterey Bay area.

It sounds like the Monterey Bay area is getting ready to host the Worlds. We are at least getting enough championship level courses!

Does anyone have a map of the object course??
