Re:August Monthly - 2008/08/03 07:32
Why are the results posted or not?

Last time I played, I went away NOT knowing how I did in the pack

I am sure anyone who didn't win is in the same position

it IS nice to know how you did against those who didn't win.

I mean GEEEEZZZ is it too much work?

This website is almost pointless......Who's Club is it?

There's a Monthly....and there's a meeting....Bag Tags.....

so where is all the information from those???

Are bag tags NOT being redistributed at the monthly?

Are there NO MORE bag tag rounds?

Who has the Gold tags??

Has it occured to anyone that if you have a meeting @ the course, you might actually have a turnout??

Is it a CLUB meeting or a meeting just for those of you who live in Santa Cruz...? If you lived over the hill, would you drive to Scott's Valley(?) RIGHT after work to look for the place where they have the club meeting?
The traffic pretty much precludes me from being there. How about having it in San Jose on a Monday at 8AM, would be a bummer eh? how come you can't make it?

Try a Saturday meeting @ the Course!!! (maybe before the monthly, or after) or a Sunday before Doubles...

Selling a bunch of bag tags and t shirts is NOT the end of it, It is the BEGINNING, now you have to get those people involved. but I guess it's more complicated the more people you get involved,
rather keep the committee small and the decisions to your liking.

WHAT ARE YOU DOING WITH THE MONEY????? is there NO reporting???
If this is just a PAC, then stop calling it a club. Those have separate functions.

How about the promoting the very Disc Social event called Doubles every Sunday.... It used to be where all came.... now I guess anti-socialism is taking hold and it's NOT "cool" to play with the doubles group on Sunday's, might bring your game down.... It is a game, don't be so serious all the time.

Not directing this at anyone in particular, but it seems like as soon as someone gets "involved" with the Club, they stop coming to doubles completely. too bad. Does the club just burn you out on disc golf??

rant rant rant....

I couldn't agree more! This subject should be a thread of its own! I could go on for days as well.

I appreciate your passion for the game and interest in the club and the events that go on at the course. The questions your asking and the comments your making are ones that are made at least once a year.

Yes it is actually a lot of work. The person or persons that end up running the event don't even get to play sometimes and sacrificed their free time to enable others to participate. After getting the scores settled and the money or tags awarded the last thing the person or persons usually want to do is run home and do data entry. If getting the scores online in a timely manner is important to you, then please stick around and volunteer to post them.

The website is a tool that is as pointless as those that make use of it. Obviously, since you are able to ask questions, and get answers, then it's not as pointless as you make it out to be. The scores for the monthly are available after the monthly and bag tag challenges to anyone who asks. Please, if you care enough, then stick around and ask.

No, the bag tags are not redistributed at the monthly. It is a mandatory challenge within your group for those with tags, it is not a mass redistribution. The Bag Tag challenge happens every Thursday, there is a forum for it and there was a post for last weeks. Also, you are free to challenge any member you see at any time for a tag round. I play one almost every Sunday morning. Matter of fact, I lost the 5 tag to Tim Messer who shot a stellar round yesterday morning. Jon Baldwin is currently in possession of the #1 tag and is at the course all the time. I don't know exactly who has the other gold tags, but ask around at the course (tip: ask the really good players) and you'll probably be able to track them down.

There have been many complaints about how the tags are being handled this year. I can honestly say that with 180+ tags out there, it's not going to be possible to impose a system to keep track of every one of them. The tags were issued under the honor system and it's up to each player to be honorable about it. I know that I have never refused a challenge if I was able to play.

Yes, this is something that used to be done. It's almost impossible to get any business done with no place to sit and write, discuss things without having to dodge discs or deal with wandering people. This is a club for a Santa Cruz course, so it makes sense to have the meeting in Santa Cruz. If you make the journey over the hill to play the course and events and are really interested in getting involved in running the club, then making the journey one more time, or staying over longer shouldn't be that hard. I drive in from Watsonville and Monterey. We set it up to get the maximum number of people that contribute time and money. The maximum number of people don't currently live over the hill.

My liking would be to have all 180+ members attending every meeting and being involved not just in the decisions, but also the work that goes into the course. This small committee that you speak of just happens to be the only people that have cared enough to make time to be involved. These are the people cleaning up the course, getting sponsors, building and repairing tee signs, dealing with yellow jackets, negotiating with the city, getting involved with the neighbors and community around the course to keep it going, etc, etc.. We have never, ever turned down someone that has volunteered to do something. We have never turned anyone away at the door who wants to be involved in the club meetings. The only reason someone hasn't been involved at the level that they want to be is because they haven't put forward the effort to do it.

WHAT ARE YOU DOING WITH THE MONEY????? is there NO reporting???

I am the club treasurer. I deliver a report as to the status of our bank account and other issues every meeting. I am happy to answer any question asked as to our finances. This includes where the money comes from and where it goes to. A quick and non specific answer is that the club money goes to the monthly upkeep of the course and some small approved donations to other courses and/or clubs. In the past we have sponsored holes at the SF course and most recently the Aptos course in order to further the interests of area disc golfers. All expenses such as these are made only with a quorum vote at club meetings.

All officers are voted into office and anyone is invited to nominate someone to run for one of these positions at the end of the year. Honestly, we end up having to beg people to take positions so that things get done. I guarantee that if you were interested in becoming the Secretary, Treasurer, Vice President or President of the club that you would have no problem getting on the ballot.

Your comment about when someone gets involved with the club, they stop coming to things like Sunday doubles is almost true. It's partly because being involved with the club at this level takes a lot of time and we end up "working" at disc golf more than playing. The other part, for me, is that Sunday doubles stopped becoming fun for me. The personalities that I had to interact with every week honestly took the fun out of the game for me. This is starting to happen at the Monthlies for me also. Some of these players have forgotten the "game" part and have started detracting from my fun. I don't get as much time to play as I used to, so I'm going to spend it playing with people I know I'm going to enjoy playing with. This is saying a lot because I can normally have fun playing with anybody.

The next club meeting is on Tuesday the 19th at 6:00 pm. The location is my office in Santa Cruz. Giavaneers is located at 1545 1/2 Pacific Ave, above Lulu Carpenters. We are planning the end of the year BBQ, getting an update on the parking lot construction and lots of other stuff. With all of the input and energy you have it would be a shame not to see you there.
