Black Mouse (Felton) Monthly??? - 2005/06/03 12:42
I'd love to set up an informal monthly tourney at Black Mouse in Felton... or maybe bi-monthly.

There's 14 Mach 3's but locals play 21 holes... all of which rule. This course is seriously a technical challenge!!!

If we can get enough people, it would be a really great thing to start. Spread the word, I'll coordinate.

Felton Represent !!!

21 holes? Where are they? I'm in Zayante (I guess that's local... ), but I'm clueless...

If you want to set up a monthly at Black Mouse, I'd say go for it! Just make sure it isn't the first Saturday of the month.

The other thing is the money - if you charge anything for it, the money should probably go to the school since they're working on donations for upgrades.

Speaking of that...I wonder if the DDGC has any $$ for that sort of thing...

I think having an event at Black Mouse would be a great idea, especially for those of us that barely leave DeLa...

Heath,
do you want to coordinate?
Do you need help?

An idea... We should think about a fundraiser to promote the course and try to help the school. This should be discussed at our next meeting. But bringing in the use of Black Mouse and promoting this could help with the overcrowding at DeLa. We can consider this our lil' sister course. DDGC Events can be planned at both locations in the future, if possible. Great place to start our Ams and Juniors.

Re:Black Mouse (Felton) Monthly??? - 2005/06/13 11:04
hi all:

I think I'm still listed as the course pro for Black Mouse - which means nothing, really, except that I have intimated first-hand knowledge of the unique limitations of the Black Mouse course, and the things to be especially sensitive about. I'd be happy to participate in any discussion about a tourney there, and I know and have the contact info for the teachers at the Jr. High Nature Academy who are our advocates for this course which is officially on school property.

Bottom line, this course has been hanging by a thread due to negative feedback by first an enviromentally concerned teacher (which led to the removal of a section of the original 18 holes) and then neighbors who border the course (who began asking for removal of the course after the fire near the tee for one hole). A major concern is that any attention drawn to the course may re-ignite the NIMBY issue for these neighbors. Need more info? Lemme know!

Excellent point(s) Jack.

BM's proximty to a JR high some times makes the situation there a uphill challenge.

If I'm not mistaken? we're not really even suppoded to play there durring school hours? This could have changed?

There are some pretty serious limitations to what can and can't be done there. An event at BM would probably need some pretty strict gonvernance & approval from the school.

Sorry to be the downer, but for example.

Although there may be people out there playing 21 holes on the 14 baskets, the neighbors may not be real big on that idea. Especally your enviro fan. It's easey to do when there only a few people, but you may not want to draw attention to it.

Every time that cousre gets attention, some part of it seems to go away.

All I know is the monthly thing I'm talkin' about would be really informal. If any money changed hands it would go to the players. As far as I know, this course is only open after school hours, mid-week. So that's when we'd play.

21 holes... yes. The ones w/out baskets just play back on other baskets and don't really affect the areas we've already been driven out of.

Um, I'm just talkin' about a little disc golf here. If those folks at the school have problems, we could get serious and try to address them, or just keep it mellow (as usual). If they're gonna raise a fuss, maybe they should just get rid of the course. There's plenty of other places in Felton. I don't really wanna worry about it, unless it really becomes an issue. All I'm tryin' to do is raise a little awareness about a really fun local course...

Side note: I'm a teacher. I have a Master's in Education and connections at SLV Elementary. If we really get to that point, I'd be willing to make some calls to advocate for the course.

=) I just love Felton, and disc golf...
