Wow. Hot toopic. Haven't checked in all day.
For what it's worth, I believe anyone can legally have an event up there so long as they do not close the course. Pragmatically, we should request that anyone planning an event should run it by the club so we can put it on the calendar if nothing else. It also helps in case the City asks about something happening. We should know about it.
We should also encourage the people putting on the event to become members, and hand out member applications. We can request that they put some money to the club, such as $1 set aside or have them all put it in the ranger, but we can't require it. Not yet.
I suggest thanking DC for running an event. ASK him if he'd be willing to help out the club by handing out membership applications. Ask if he'd be willing to collect an extra buck for the club, or at least tell everyone playing to put an extra buck in the ranger.
To prevent future misunderstandings, perhaps we could put something on the bulletin board at the course, and something on the website, asking that anyone planning any events contact someone in the club.

I just want to make it perfectly clear that none of this was intended to come across as being antagonistic toward Dave C. He's been a fixture up at the course for many years and has contributed a lot of work during that time.
He started this tournament last year and he had every right to assume there wouldn't be any problem continuing with it on an annual basis. After all, the DDGC wasn't as active last year as it is now...
Rather, I think it is important for us to use this opportunity for discussion and perhaps determine how the DDGC fits into the 'outside events' picture. The horse is already out of the barn, but that doesn't mean we can't establish some guidelines which should help avoid any conflicts in the future.
It's time for a club meeting.

Well put, Daviar. It may appear that all this chat was directed at DC, but it's really just the general issue, isn't it.
I also agree, it is time for a meeting.
The regular club thing is scheduled for 6/29.
Should we be planning an exec committee meeting prior to then?
Seems like we have this tourney thing and a couple of other items (new grounds coordinator, the BOARD) to discuss...

On the topic of Meeting and the Board, I've heard buzz the interim elect is nearing an end? is that right? If so, I suggest we put the word out to the entire membership that we are ready for an election as far ahead as possible, for good visibility.

I think that's pretty well understood.
I still think it's OK to be disapointed that he has already declined working with the club on this issue, and chose the "it's public land" approach.
It's Ok for the club to have a little bit of a spine.
It could be as easy as this:
Dave asks the club first, to support his event. Maybe with a donation of some sort. The the club could asks, are you going to give some of your proceeds to the club? and then Dave could say, how about if you give my donation to the club back to the event and call it a wash.
He started this tournament last year and he had every right to assume there wouldn't be any problem continuing with it on an annual basis. After all, the DDGC wasn't as active last year as it is
This I do not agree with. Every year for a tournamnet is a new year with new challenges. Venue is the first consideration, and even if it's the same one you used last year, things change.
I started the 24 last year, used Dela for part of that event, gave some of the money to the club. And I am entirely aware that there is no way that will be possible this year. The course is too impacted.
So what'sthe difference between Dave & I ? He's been around longer than I have.
All of the "fixtures" know that the club is re-organized, if they chose not to get involved with the club or work outside of that structure you shouldn't make so many excuses for them, and you should not feel guilty for saying that's not exactly cool.
This topic did come up last year when he did this event.
