Black Mouse Course map??? - 2005/07/18 20:21
Sorry for the multipost...
I am looking for a course map for Black Mouse. I was up there yesterday and got lost after the fourth hole. Found 7,8 and 9 then lost my heading again and found myself at hole 17.
Does anyone know the course well enough to draw a map???
Thanks in advance, John

Hey John, I would think that Jack Trageser would either have one or know someone who could map it out for you. I think that the course is undergoing some changes including reinstalling some holes that were taken out.
Jack??? Can you help?

John is right about changes upcoming to the Black Mouse Course sometime in the future, hopefully meaning a restoration to 18 holes.
THe reason it is so difficult to find your way or for that matter map the course is because a couple forced hole (or group of holes) removals have left the course disjointed. THat and a lack of cement teepads.
I have a call into Carter Milhouse, who is the teacher-advocated, but have not heard back yet to confirm the alternate rumors of expansion back to 18 holes or entire course removal. I'll pass on the news as soon as I hear it.
The best help I can give - and this is based on the last time I played there, which was many months ago, is to describe the spots where traversing is required.
Holes 1-4 are easy enough to find, but for to find hole 5 you must go right from the 4 basket, with the chain-link fence along your left, and look for an opening in the brush to your right. The tee for 5 is right there, with the basket slightly uphill and straight. From there you must hike up the hill 100 feet or so to the teepad for the next hole (it's next to a large stump. The next tee is further up the hill, and you should be able to locate the next several.
After that, you'll be on the "backside" of the course, and this is where is gets a little tougher to describe. Since the tee areas are just clearings of dirt, look for worn trails.
If anyone is interested, I'd be happy to lead a group around sometime. Lemme know.
As a reminder, be especially diligent about not smoking, drinking alcohol, or doing anything illegal on or around the course. It is on school property, which makkes it a big no-no. If you see someone else doing anything "uncool," just remind them that one slip, and the course is gone.
