Universally acknowledged as the toughest hole on the course, "I-5" may be the most difficult true par 3 in the disc golf universe as well. It starts out long, flat and wide-open, but this is only the first half of the fairway. A 330-foot straight drive will leave you 300 feet away from the basket set at a dogleg left, with nothing but intensely thick and tall trees in between. Throw much further, though, and you'll be out of position. To the left of the fairway running the entire length is a similarly thick forested slope. Drives that veer left too soon result in completely obstructed second shots, so bad that often the only choice is to play back out into the open fairway. Most players try to place their drive somewhere in the middle of the wide open fairway, as far as possible without passing up the small guarded entrance to the dogleg. At that point the hole essentially becomes a near impossible par two. The only viable options to reach the basket for par are giant hyzers or anhyzers, or accurate rollers. When putting on this hole, keep in mind a bogey is realistically a par. Don't risk taking a double by trying for a far-fetched 3. Use the trees clustered behind the basket as a backstop if possible. |
