Thanks Scott. I agree that what they are doing is a very efficient way of maintaining club membership.
Unfortunately, although we have one of the best courses in the world and are up there in terms of local talent, in terms of volunteerism we're on the bottom rung. Don't get me wrong, we've had some incredible, tireless, selfless volunteers over the past 25 years, and still do. But there are things that can be done with dozens of eager hands always at the ready that can't be done by a mere handful.
I'm not sure why this is the case here, but it is.
If you are reading this and are suddenly inspired to put in some time to help the club, let us know. Scott, maybe you can get the Sunday Doubles regulars to take it on as a group effort? : )

Jack's words are all too true. Mark K said something similar before the Jan 2010 monthly.
A few comments:
1. Why is it that the vast majority of volunteers are 35-60+ years old? Do the younger players (both am and pro) think that DeLaveaga Disc Golf is an entitlement? Do they know the history of the game or the course? Do they even care?
2. Having the bag tag purchase be a "club memebership" is a terrible idea. I think we have all seen the consequence of that. Just having a bag tag and playing the weekly rounds does not make you an active club member, sorry. To prove that point, I never bought a bag tag last year. So I guess I was not a member even though I spent many hours working on several projects for the club, went to just about every club meeting, and worked at the course. (Kudos to Jason E for running the tags and moving the baskets though.)
3. I think we may need to start thinking about dissolving the club and starting a Santa Cruz County Disc Golf Club that encompasses all of the county courses (i.e. Black Mouse, Aptos High, and Pinto Lake). Kinda like what the Stinging Jellies do in Monterey. This way we get some of the volunteer enthusiasm/effort from those courses. We work at their course, they work at ours, etc. We pool resources in other ways too.
4. One more word on volunteering...it's not just moving the lawn and weeding in the spring. There is a tremendous amont of "behind the scenes" work that needs to get done every year, and everones' special talents can be utilized for the betterment of the club.

I think that's a good idea Eric (I did the same last year).
Jack on your note,
I would like to incorporate bag tags into Sunday Dubs and yes, sell memberships or tags to those who don't have them yet, maybe sponsoring a tag as a CTP would be a good idea.
I'm thinking bag tags up for Sunday dubs, A player tags vs. A player tags, and B player vs. B player.
I also think making tags / memberships available at DJ's, The Van, and Tom's shop would at least improve our member base as some visitor's will buy a tag as souvenir. maybe print something on the tags like "This tag does not support the course(s), Only YOU can do that"'
Also, I would be glad to organize a club mailing / membership drive for whatever club is formed / maintained.
sorry, its just difficult to get to LuLus on a Thursday night for me, maybe that's part of the issue with getting participation.
Any thoughts on a virtual meeting??
